What We Do

Empowering Young People Through Meaningful Experiences.

At LVCDI, we believe growth happens when young people have access to the right opportunities, guidance and supportive environments.

Our programmes bring learning, mentorship, creativity and community together to help teenagers and young adults develop confidence, strengthen their values and become responsible contributors to society.

Let's Pray, Chill and Connect

Let’s Pray, Chill and Connect created a warm, welcoming space for young people to share experiences and discuss life, faith, relationships, careers and personal growth. Through open conversations, recreational activities and peer connections, participants could express themselves, explore different perspectives and build confidence. Held across the Federal Capital Territory between 2017 and 2019, the program reached approximately 500 young people and encouraged a sense of belonging and community.

Outreaches: Mararaba and Zuba

Our Mararaba and Zuba outreaches supported young people in underserved communities through practical assistance, encouragement and personal guidance. Held quarterly between 2017 and 2019, the events combined food distribution with motivational conversations and counselling. Regular visits also created opportunities to follow up with participants and support their development. Across communities on the outskirts of the FCT, the initiative reached approximately 1,000 young people.

Project I61

Project I61 encouraged secondary school students to pursue academic excellence and make informed career choices. Between 2015 and 2016, LVCDI visited four Abuja schools with child development specialists, drawing lessons from Fela Durotoye’s book, 17 Secrets of High-Flying Students. The team also established reading clubs and returned periodically to mentor participants. Through school assemblies and continued guidance, Project I61 reached more than 2,000 junior secondary school students.

Book Drive

The Book Drive helped children in underserved communities access the materials they needed for school. In 2015, LVCDI partnered with Young and Active Nigeria to distribute exercise books, pens, pencils, bags, uniforms and other supplies to pupils in selected primary schools. Students also took part in talks on academic achievement, career aspirations and personal development. Supported by donors and partners, the project has benefited approximately 1,000 pupils and aided their learning in school.

Project Impact Child

Project Impact Child brought children from four orphanage homes together for a day of joy, creativity and connection in 2015. Hosted at Karu Orphanage Home, the event welcomed children from Gwagwalada, Karu, Mararaba and Kwali for singing, dancing, poetry, talent competitions and motivational talks. LVCDI also provided food and clothing. By going beyond donations to create shared experiences, the initiative offered children opportunities to express themselves, have fun too and feel fully included.

Open Mic Talent Show

The Open Mic Talent Show gave young creatives an opportunity to share their gifts through music, dance, poetry, spoken word and theatre. Organised with Kerusso Records in Abuja’s Jabi District in 2015, the event featured performances, creative challenges, prizes and conversations about character and careers in entertainment. Around 150 young people attended, gaining a platform for self-expression, confidence and connection with others who shared their shared passion for the creative arts today!

Helping Hands

Helping Hands extended practical support to widows in communities across the Federal Capital Territory. In 2018 and 2019, LVCDI gathered donations and purchased food, clothing and other essential items for distribution in Mararaba, Zuba, Karu, Lugbe, Madalla and Kuje. The initiative brought donors and volunteers together around a shared commitment to compassion and community care, offering assistance to women facing difficult circumstances and encouraging a culture of care and active generosity.

Volunteering

Volunteering gives young people opportunities to learn through service and real-world practice. LVCDI involves participants in activities across media, photography, barbering, fashion design and other practical fields, helping them explore interests and develop useful abilities. Along the way, volunteers practise teamwork, creativity, responsibility and problem-solving. These experiences encourage young people to contribute to their communities while building confidence for future opportunities.

Mentorship

Mentorship is central to LVCDI’s work with young people. Through guidance, encouragement and supportive relationships, the initiative helps participants build confidence, strengthen decision-making and develop leadership and problem-solving skills. Mentors offer perspectives on education, careers, relationships and personal challenges, helping young people set goals and navigate important choices. The aim is to nurture purposeful individuals who can pursue their ambitions and support their peers.
